Both schools embrace the long-standing tradition for Old Scotch Collegians and Old Melburnians to attend a match that dates back to 1858. It is an occasion that exemplifies the bonds of respect and friendship between the two schools and spectators are welcome.
The Cordner-Eggleston Cup was introduced in 1989 to honour two outstanding sportsmen and personalities who gave great service to football and to their respective schools:
Dr. Donald Cordner – an outstanding schoolboy footballer and all-round sportsman at Melbourne Grammar. He went on to play 166 games with the Melbourne Football Club between 1942 and 1950.
Mr. ‘Mick’ Eggleston – an outstanding schoolboy athlete, cricketer and footballer. At Melbourne University he gained blues for cricket and football and played for the Old Scotch Football Club.
