On Friday 31 May, Old Scotch Collegians and members of the Scotch Family came together to celebrate our school’s rich heritage and Scottish traditions at the 2024 OSCA Annual Dinner. The night was filled with meaningful connections, laughter, and a strong sense of community spirit.
OSCA President, Stephen Webster (’73) welcomed over 475 attendees, and we were honoured to have Andrew Dillon, CEO of the AFL as our guest speaker. Andrew commenced his career at the AFL in 2000, initially as legal counsel before ascending to higher roles within the organisation. On 1 May 2023, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the AFL and is a well-known and highly respected leader in our community. At the dinner, Andrew captivated the room with his well-pitched tales and he shared insights into the history of the game of football.
The night also featured a special video presentation created by past student Nick Finster (’20). The video, which you can watch again by clicking below, included a short history of football at Scotch presented by Bruce Brown (’60) and highlighted some of our alumni who have gone on to play AFL football professionally.
School Principal, Dr. Scott Marsh, gave a school update and then showcased his musical prowess on the guitar. Accompanied by members of the school’s pipe band, Dr. Marsh delivered a unique rendition of U2’s classic I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, featuring his own lyrics.
This year’s dinner saw a record turnout of young old boys, with over 35% of attendees in their first 10 years out of school. Their strong presence highlighted the enduring bond and connection that alumni have with the school, making the evening not only a celebration of the past but also a promising glimpse into the future.
The 2024 Annual Dinner was a memorable night filled with a strong sense of belonging. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to making this year’s dinner so special. Your presence and participation are what makes the Scotch Family community strong and vibrant.
