OSCA recently hosted the Business Networking Breakfast at Zinc, Federation Square.

Panellists Clark Kirby (’96), CEO of Village Roadshow Group and Nick Griffin (’91), founder and CIO Munro Partners shared their insights into the world of investing and entertainment, sharing their experiences and views on current trends.  MC, Matt Guthridge (’91) led the discussion which delved into the future of entertainment and role and impact of AI, sparking thought-provoking questions from the audience during the Q & A session.

The strength of the Scotch community lies in the relationships we build and the support we offer one another.  The Business Networking Breakfast is an excellent opportunity to tap into the vast knowledge and resources available within the Scotch Family to build new connections, strengthen existing ones and discover potential partnerships.  This event provides thought-provoking conversations led by renowned Old Scotch Collegians and opportunities to network with members of the Scotch Family.

We were joined by students participating in the School’s year 11 mentoring program organised by the Future Pathways Careers team at Scotch.  Towards the end of the event, Nick and Clark shared some parting advice directed at the younger members attending the breakfast:

1/ Travel. Most of the best ideas or businesses are ideas that have worked overseas that people bought back to Australia. Village Roadshow and Munro Partners were both good examples of that, and if you don’t travel and work overseas you won’t get those perspectives.

2/ Don’t be in such a rush to ‘get there’ to ‘make it’. Experience tells us that there is no ‘there’… it doesn’t exist. The journey has proved to be much more fun than the destination, so take your time and don’t panic when others seem to be ‘getting there’ faster.

3/ Be nice to people along the way. Your journey will take you through lots of jobs and industries and it’s important to make contacts and friends along the way. You will need to lean on them someday when you are trying to make something happen. The Scotch alumni is a great example of this, and we are all lucky to have been to a school that has such a strong past student network.
